Kia holds line on all-new Kia Optima, to start at $21,840

(October 16, 2015) IRVINE, Calif. — Kia has announced pricing of the newest version of its hugely popular midsize sedan, the Optima.  Offered in five trim levels — LX, LX 1.6T, EX, SX and SXL — the all-new 2016 Optima is priced aggressively starting at $21,840 not including destination charge for the LX with a 2.4-liter engine.  That's the same starting price as the 2015 Optima.

Honda to add 120 new EV chargers to Torrance campus

(October 16, 2015) TORRANCE, Calif. — In an effort to increase the use of alternative fuel vehicles by its associates for daily commuting, and to prepare for a new generation of plug-in vehicles set to arrive by 2018, Honda is adding 120 new electric vehicle (EV) chargers on the Torrance, Calif., headquarter campus of American Honda Motor Co. 

The new chargers will be installed in two phases, the first of which has already begun. Ultimately, Honda estimates that the chargers will enable hundreds of associates to use an EV for their daily commute.

According to product plan, Dodge Viper will cease production in 2017

(October 16, 2015) The Automotive News reported this week that the Dodge Viper, launched nearly a quarter-century ago to much acclaim, will end production in 2017. The auto industry publication cited details contained in Fiat Chrysler’s new contract with the UAW.

The product plan is included in an agreement that will be voted on by UAW members next week.

Ford factories in Europe save enough energy to power Oxford for a year

(October 16, 2015) BRENTWOOD, Essex, England — Ford in Europe is on course to achieve a reduction in energy usage, per vehicle produced, of 25 per cent since 2011, following investments of  £20million ($31.2 million) specifically targeting energy waste.

This means that each year Ford will save about 800 gigawatt hours at its European plants — roughly the amount of energy used annually by a city with a population of 170,000, such as Oxford.

Volvo to introduce plug-in hybrids across its entire lineup

(October 16, 2015) Volvo Cars has announced one of the automotive industry’s most comprehensive electrification strategies in which plug-in hybrids will be introduced across its entire range. And it plans to develop an entirely new range of electrified smaller cars and build a fully electric car for sale by 2019.

Kia recalls 377,000 Sorento SUVs for rollaway problem

(October 15, 2015) Kia Motors said today it will recall 377,000 Sorento SUVs in the United States after reports of three injuries from parked vehicles rolling away. The recall covers the 2011-13 Sorento.

The Korean automaker says in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that if "excessive force is applied to the gear shift lever, the brake-shift interlock mechanism may chip or crack allowing the transmission being able to be shifted out of ‘park’ without the brakes being depressed."

This circa 1949-1952 International Harvester L-Series truck cab was found rusting away in an eastern North Carolina field.The L-Series was introduced in 1949 as a replacement for the KB-Series and was available as everything from light pickup trucks and delivery vehicles to full-size tractor-trailers.
