New smart fortwo cabrio to be unveiled in Frankfurt

(August 28, 2015) STUTTGART — The countdown has started for the new smart fortwo cabrio, a particularly iconic variant of the new model series. The open-top two- seater will have its world premiere in mid-September at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The new smart cabrio will launch in the United States in early summer of 2016.



Volkswagen Group's worldwide sales down 1 percent so far in 2015

(August 27, 2015) Volkswagen's worldwide sales are off slightly during the period from January through July compared to the same time last year, Volkswagen reported this week. Sales from January to July this year totaled 5.83 million compared to 5.89 million in 2014, a 1 percent decline.

In July, the VW group sold 792,100 compared to 822,200 in July 2014, a 3.7 percent decline.

Kia reveals all-new 2016 Sportage

Kelley predicts 4 percent new-vehicle sales drop in August

(August 26, 2015) IRVINE, Calif. — New-vehicle sales are expected to decline 4 percent year-over-year to a total of 1.52 million units in August, resulting in an estimated 17.2 million seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR), according to Kelley Blue Book. 

Industry sales are expected to decline in comparison to this time last year because auto sales from Labor Day weekend in 2014 were included in last year's August results.  This year, the Labor Day weekend sales days will be included in the September results, so the shift in the timing of Labor Day this year impacts the year-over-year results.

Auto supplier DENSO in Maryville, Tenn., to invest $400 million, hire 500

(August 26, 2015) SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Global auto supplier DENSO announced Tuesday that it is adding 500 jobs and investing $400 million to expand its electronics manufacturing capabilities and build a new warehouse at its DENSO Manufacturing Tennessee (DMTN) manufacturing facility in Maryville.

Kia Soul EV being used for wireless charging development

(August 26, 2015) Wireless charging systems, capable of transferring high power without need for precise alignment between the charger and the vehicle, are currently under development for electric vehicles, with the Kia Soul EV being the tester car for this research.

Wireless charging technology has the potential to significantly enhance the convenience of electric vehicles — and so increase the appeal and acceptance among consumers — while possibly enabling smaller battery pack sizes and reduced vehicle weight.

Jaguar's first SUV — the F-PACE — to debut at Frankfurt Motor Show

Mercedes-Benz to unveil new S-Class Cabriolet in Frankfurt
