Toyota surprises SEMA with 850-horsepower Camry dragster

(November 5, 2014) TORRANCE, Calif. — In drag racing terms, a “sleeper” is a car that looks as innocuous as possible, but has the means to blow the doors off the competition. The attendees at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show were shocked when emcee Rutledge Wood lifted the Sleeper Camry’s body to reveal a purpose-built dragster putting out over 850 horsepower.

Nissan profit rises despite slowdown in China

(November 4, 2014) YOKOHAMA, Japan — Nissan today reported a slight increase in second-quarter profit as record sales in the U.S. dulled the impact of a slowdown in China. Operating profit rose to $2.54 billion for the first half of the 2014 fiscal year, representing a 5.1% margin on net revenues that climbed 8.2% to $49.95 billion for the period.

Sales fell in each month in the quarter in China, the world's biggest auto market, where a slowing economy and lingering anti-Japanese sentiment is leading to fewer passenger cars and commercial vehicles leaving showrooms.

Subaru records best October sales ever

(November 4, 2014) CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Subaru of America, Inc. has reported a 25 percent sales increase for October, resulting in an October sales record. The company sold 43,012 vehicles in October 2014 versus 34,483 in October 2013.

Year-to-date sales increased 20 percent with 418,497 vehicles sold versus 347,890 over the same period last year. The company has now seen 35 consecutive months of year-over-year growth and is well on its way to its sixth successive annual sales record. Subaru expects to surpass its 2013 annual sales record of 424,683 vehicles in the coming weeks.

GM reports best October sales since 2007

(November 3, 2014) DETROIT — General Motors dealers delivered 226,819 vehicles in the United States in October for the company’s best October sales in seven years. Chevrolet sales were up year over year on the strength of the Silverado, Cruze, Traverse and Equinox, and Buick had its best October in more than a decade. Total company sales a year ago were 226,402 units.

Chrysler Group reports best October sales since 2001

(November 3, 2014) AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Chrysler Group today reported U.S. sales of 170,480 units, a 22 percent increase compared with sales in October 2013, and the group’s best October sales since 2001.
 
The Chrysler, Jeep Ram Truck and FIAT brands each posted year-over-year sales gains in October compared with the same month a year ago. The Jeep brand’s 52 percent increase was the largest sales gain of any Chrysler Group brand and the brand’s best ever sales in the month of October. The group extended its streak of year-over-year sales gains to 55-consecutive months.
 

Honda Division breaks monthly sales record in October

(November 3, 2014) American Honda today reported total October Honda and Acura vehicle sales of 121,172 units, an increase of 5.8 percent versus October of last year. The Honda division set a new October record on sales of 105,745 vehicles, an increase of 5.5 percent for the month. The Acura division posted sales of 15,427 units to rise 7.9 percent in the same period.

Ford unleashes three new EcoBoost Expeditions at SEMA

(November 3, 2014) LAS VEGAS — From a high-horsepower application to sophisticated style and aggressive snow warrior, three Ford Expeditions — new for 2015 — have been given makeovers just in time for the 2014 Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas.

A trio of top industry builders — Tjin Edition, DUB Magazine and Vaccar — took charge with the 2015 Ford Expedition to create versions of the full-size utility vehicle like no other. Look for the custom Expeditions to be on display this week (Nov. 4-7) at Las Vegas Convention Center.
