General Motors sets another February sales record in China

(March 6, 2014) SHANGHAI — General Motors and its joint ventures sold 257,770 vehicles in China during February, setting a new record for the month. Sales increased 19.9 percent from 215,070 vehicles sold in the same month last year.

In February, Shanghai GM’s domestic sales were up 8.8 percent year on year to 109,889 units, SAIC-GM-Wuling’s domestic sales were up 29.4 percent to 142,620 units and FAW-GM’s domestic sales were up 38.7 percent to 5,092 units.

Ford boosts increased towing capacity in new Super Duty trucks

(March 6, 2014) HOUSTON — The Ford F-Series Super Duty reinforces its leadership in the heavy-duty pickup truck market with engine and chassis upgrades for 2015 that together deliver best-in-class horsepower, torque and towing capacity, Ford said today.

Ford’s second-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel now boasts 440 horsepower, up from 400 horsepower, and 860 lb.-ft. of torque, up from 800 lb.-ft, across all Super Duty models from F-250 to F-450.

Modified Chevrolet bowtie makes Z/28 even cooler

(March 6, 2014) DETROIT — In developing the 2014 Camaro Z/28, the team scrutinized every component looking for ways to improve track performance, lap after lap. Even the iconic Chevrolet bowtie faced audit.

During aerodynamics testing, Powertrain Cooling Development engineer Richard Quinn noticed that the bowtie on the Z/28’s grill was displacing air away from the radiator, which can impact engine cooling – an important aspect for all vehicles, especially track-oriented cars.

Three of eight Corvettes recovered from museum sinkhole

European SEAT Leon sets Nurburgring record for front-wheel drive cars

(March 5, 2014) GENEVA — The SEAT Leon Cupra 280 has smashed the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record in Germany for a front-wheel drive car. With an time of 7:58.4, it becomes the first FWD production model to dip below the eight-minute barrier.

The car used to set the amazing lap time was a production-specification Leon Cupra 280 DSG, equipped with an optional Performance Pack that includes Brembo high-performance brakes, specially designed 19-inch alloy wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
