Honda sets all-time December sales record, second best yearly result

(January 3, 2014) American Honda today reported total 2013 vehicle sales of 1,525,312 units, an increase of 7.2 percent for the year and the second-best result in company history. A total of 135,255 Honda and Acura vehicles were sold in December, eclipsing last December's strong sales by 1.9 percent.

Chrysler records best December sales in six years

Chevrolet sets starting price of race-ready Camaro Z/28 at $75,000

(January 3, 2014) DETROIT — Chevrolet today announced the 2014 Camaro Z/28 will go on sale this spring with a suggested retail price of $75,000, including a $995 destination charge.

The new Z/28 is offered in five exterior colors — Red Hot, Black, Silver Ice Metallic, Ashen Gray Metallic and Summit White. Only a single option is available: A $1,150 package that adds air conditioning and a total of six audio speakers. The standard Z/28 package includes one speaker.

Let the sun in: Ford to introduce C-Max Solar Energi Concept

(January 2, 2014) DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford announced today that the C-Max Solar Energi Concept, a first-of-its-kind sun-powered vehicle with the potential to deliver the best of what a plug-in hybrid offers — without depending on the electric grid for fuel, will be unveiled next week.

Instead of powering its battery from an electrical outlet, Ford C-Max Solar Energi Concept harnesses the power of the sun by using a special concentrator that acts like a magnifying glass, directing intense rays to solar panels on the vehicle roof.

Fiat agrees to buy remaining stake in Chrysler

(January 2, 2014) Fiat said Wednesday it had signed an agreement to buy the remaining 41.46 percent stake it does not own in Chrysler Group from the UAW's VEBA Trust, the last step needed before the Italian and U.S. carmakers can merge.

Fiat said the voluntary employee beneficiary association, which covers UAW retiree health care costs, would receive $3.65 billion for the stake. Chrysler also agreed to separately make a total of $700 million in four annual payments to the UAW's trust fund.
