(August 7, 2013) I must admit, because the cars I drive nearly always have less than 10,000 miles on them — most less than 5,000 miles — and are always delivered to me clean and fully serviced, I rarely need to lift the hood unless I am uncontrollably curious. Popping the hood mostly reveals just a lot of plastic covers and some wires. Rather than being a voyage of discovery, lifting the hood usually just has me asking myself, "Hmmm, I wonder what's under there and there?"

GM invests $167 million in Spring Hill for new vehicles

(August 6, 2013) SPRING HILL, Tenn. — General Motors today increased to $350 million planned spending for new vehicles to be produced at its Spring Hill assembly plant, built originally to produce Saturn vehicles. The new investment adds $167 million to a previously announced $183 million pledge and is expected to create or retain about 1,800 jobs.

New Hyundai station will provide 100 percent renewable hydrogen

(August 6, 2013) CHINO, Calif. — The California Energy Commission has awarded Hydrogen Frontier a $3 million grant to build a new 100 percent renewable hydrogen fueling station for fuel cell electric vehicles at Hyundai's hydrogen energy generation and fueling station in Chino, Calif.

Infiniti announces G37 sedan to be sold alongside new Q50

GM cuts $5,000 off price of 2014 Chevrolet Volt

Study shows Volkswagen factory created 12,400 jobs

(August 5, 2013) TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Volkswagen’s Chattanooga factory, and the Passat that is built there, have been a corporate success story for the brand and a local economic success story for Tennessee. According to a new study Volkswagen Chattanooga has an annual economic impact of $643 million and has created 12,400 full-time jobs in the region.

Surging demand for Ford Fiesta ST in Europe prompts production boost

(August 5, 2013) BRENTWOOD, England — Ford has received double the expected number of orders for the award-winning Ford Fiesta ST in its first six months on sale, with almost one third of all orders placed across Europe coming from the UK. More than 3,000 Fiesta ST orders have been placed in the UK since it went on sale at the end of March, a sales rate well ahead of the projected 5,000-per-year target.

General Motors sales in China top 220,000 units in July

(August 5, 2013) SHANGHAI — General Motors and its joint ventures sold a July record 221,580 vehicles in China, an increase of 11.1 percent from last year’s previous high for the month and the first time that July sales topped 200,000 units.

Shanghai GM’s domestic sales rose 16.7 percent on an annual basis to a July record
113,239 units. SAIC-GM-Wuling also set a July domestic sales record, as demand for its products increased 6.1 percent to 104,682 units. FAW-GM’s domestic sales decreased 4.1 percent to 3,239 units.
