GM China sets stage for Volt demonstration fleet in country

(March 26, 2012) BEIJING –— General Motors China has signed a memorandum of understanding with the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC) to manage GM’s Chevrolet Volt demonstration fleet in Beijing for one year and to help organize workshops and seminars that will build support among decision makers and key stakeholders for vehicle electrification policy in China.

Custom 45th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro to be auctioned April 6

(March 26, 2012) DETROIT — The first 45th Anniversary Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, VIN 001, will be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson 10th Annual Florida Auction on Friday, April 6. Chevrolet Motor Division donated the collectable car and all proceeds will benefit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute — one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country.

BMW to show 2013 X1 crossover in N.Y. signaling its availability in the U.S.

(March 26, 2012) BMW is promising that its small X1 crossover will finally go on sale in the U.S. this summer. BMW debuted the smaller SUV in Europe in summer 2009 suggesting it would also export the car to the U.S. But the X1 never made it as demand for the car in European markets took up all of its production.

(March 24, 2012) SPRING HILL, Tenn. — Investments of $55 million to meet consumer demand for more fuel-efficient engines helped General Motors Spring Hill powertrain plant produce its 3-millionth Ecotec engine this week, just 2½ years after the 2 millionth engine was assembled.

Ford's Asia Pacific and Africa plants reduce water use by 25 percent

(March 24, 2012) DEARBORN, Mich. — World Water Day was March 22, but every day is Water Day for Ford Motor Company. A recently announced goal calls for Ford to cut the amount of water used to make each vehicle 30 percent globally by 2015, compared with 2009.
 
The company's plants in Asia Pacific and Africa share in this aggressive goal, and have already reduced water usage per vehicle by 25% from 2000 to 2011.

Volvo's Mean Green hybrid truck to attempt new world record

(March 24, 2012) "Mean Green," the world’s fastest hybrid truck, will attempt to reach speeds in excess of 165 mph on April 27 at Wendover Airfield in Utah to try and beat its own world speed records set only last year by ‘Mean Green’s driver Boije Ovebrink.

The Volvo-built hybrid currently holds speed records in the standing 500 meter, standing kilometer and flying kilometer — international speed standards.

Fiat 500 Abarth one of least depreciating cars in UK

(March 23, 2012) — With the Fiat 500 Abarth now reaching dealer showrooms in the U.S., it is interesting to learn it has been found to be one of the least depreciating cars in the UK.

The findings, by valuation specialists CAP, and published in this week’s (March 21) Auto Express, put the pocket rocket in third place behind the Audi Q5 and Skoda Yeti, with an average resale value of 60 per cent of its list price, based on three years or 30,000 miles use.

Ford begins work on $1 billion manufacturing facility in India

(March 23, 2012) SANAND, India — Ford India is laying the foundation for its new $1 billion state-of-the-art, integrated manufacturing facility in Sanand and its future growth on the subcontinent. At a ceremony Thursday, Ford India laid the foundation stone at the paint shop area of its new manufacturing facility.
 
When complete in 2014, the integrated manufacturing facility will have the capacity to produce an additional 240,000 new Ford vehicles and 270,000 engines per year for Indian customers and for export markets.
