German project highlights potential of electric vehicles for urban business

(July 11, 2011) More than a century ago electric vehicles proved to be more efficient than their internal combustion engine counterparts for short-haul urban use. Seems we've come full circle.

A study in Cologne, Germany, has reached the conclusion that pure electric commercial vehicles are reliable and have wide potential for urban commercial usage. This startling revelation according to interim findings of the colognE-mobil project.

GM's waste-reduction efforts spread to non-manufacturing sites

(July 10, 2011) DETROIT – General Motors’ efforts to eliminate the shipment of plant waste to landfills is spreading to its non-manufacturing sites, 10 of which now reuse, recycle or convert to energy all waste from normal operations.

“Our non-manufacturing facilities see the importance of being waste-reduction leaders, and they know their customers value it as well,” said John Bradburn, manager of GM’s waste-reduction efforts.

Ford claims capless fuel filler deters theft

Toyota says Prius will regain its 2010 sales pace

(July 8, 2011) LOS ANGELES — Despite lack of inventory this spring and early summer because of the Japanese earthquake in March, Toyota says the Prius will still beat 2010 numbers. Toyota sold 140,928 units of the Prius last year.

Through June of this year, Prius sales stood at 66,520, nearly identical to first half-year sales last year.

Audi sets price of high-performance TT RS at $56,850

(July 8, 2011) Audi of America today announced pricing for the much anticipated high-performance Audi TT RS. It will start at $56,850 (excluding destination charge).

The 2012 TT RS is the pinnacle of the TT model line, and signifies the return of the RS nameplate to the U.S.

Mitsubishi's electric car rated at 126 mpg in city driving

(July 8, 2011) Mitsubishi received good news Thursday when its new electric car was rated at 126 MPGe (gas-mileage equivalency meaning how its electricity use would compare to gasoline use) for city driving and 99 MPGe for highway driving by the EPA.

At the same time the Mitsubishi i was given a 62-mile driving range.

Ford delivers 100,000th Figo in India

(July 8, 2011) NEW DELHI, India — Despite market challenges, Ford India delivered its 100,000th Figo this month and has increased sales by 53 percent for the year.
 
Ford India sold more than 60,000 units wholesale and export vehicles from January to June 2011, compared to 39,465 units sold during the same period last year. In June the company had combined wholesale and exports of 9,145 vehicles, compared to 8,483 units in June 2010.

Hyundai sells 100,000 40 mpg vehicles through first six months of 2011

(July 7, 2011) COSTA MESA, Calif. (PRNewswire) — There was reason to celebrate at Hyundai over the Fourth of July weekend — it sold its 100,000th vehicle achieving 40 miles per gallon highway fuel economy.

Through the first six months, 29 percent of Hyundai's sales volume topped 40 mpg highway fuel economy — a number that rocketed to 40 percent in June.

Aston Martin confirms production of supercar

(July 7, 2011) Aston Martin today confirmed production of a limited number of the new V12 Zagato following its successful unveilings.

After winning the award for Design in the Concepts and Prototypes class at the prestigious Villa D’ Este Concours and then going on to prove its durability with the successful completion of the grueling 39th ADAC Nürburgring 24 Hour race, Aston Martin confirms that there is overwhelmingly and encouraging interest from customers to produce the V12 Zagato.
