Toyota, Honda boost incentives YTD

(October 7, 2010) TOKYO — Toyota and Honda, Japan’s two largest carmakers, have boosted incentives the most among 18 brands in the U.S. so far this year as rivals make larger sales gains.

Toyota’s average incentive spending surged 31 percent to $2,068 a vehicle, excluding its Lexus brand, while Honda’s gained 36 percent to $2,005 in the first nine months of 2010, according to industry researcher TrueCar.com in Santa Monica, Calif.

Ford — Plugging in instead of gassing up

(October 7, 2010) DEARBORN, Mich. — When Ford debuts its all-new Focus Electric in late 2011, customers will learn a new way of “refueling” — plugging in instead of gassing up.

While most owners are expected to recharge the zero-emissions, gas-free Focus Electric at home with an optional wall-mounted 240V charging station, they also will have the ability to recharge at remote locations with a standard 120V convenience cord.

Small number of Cadillac SRX crossovers recalled for power steering problem

(October 7, 2010) General Motors is conducting a voluntary safety recall of 3,996 Cadillac SRX crossovers from the 2010 model year for a possible damage to the power steering line.

Based on GM analysis, the issue is believed to exist in only two or three of the recalled vehicles.

Toyota makes two-year free maintenance standard

These two new plans offer complimentary normal factory-scheduled maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance for two years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first.
 

Volt charging unit only $490, but then there's the installation

Priced by SPX Service Solutions  at $490 before installation, Chevrolet’s “Voltec” 240V home charging unit is one of several 240V home charging units that will be offered for sale by SPX Service Solutions, a national provider of home charging installation services and equipment.

Chattanooga-built VW to be sold in China

(October 7, 2010) The new mid-sized Volkswagen to be built at a new plant in Chattanooga might also be built and sold in China, Volkswagen said Wednesday.

The model, which will be priced at about $20,000, will be built to begin with at VW's new U.S. plant and sold in the U.S. in the second half of 2011.

Re-designed Dodge Charger revealed

(October 6, 2010) AUBURN HILLS, Mich.  — Chrysler revealed a redesigned 2011 Dodge Charger today. The automaker said the latest Charger was “spiritually inspired by the second-generation Charger of the late 1960s.”

It is also one of the most aerodynamic Charger models ever, Chrysler said, with a lower hood line, faster windshield, more radically raked back headlights, tighter wheel openings, lower sill and a race-car like flat underbody.
