GM seeks to keep leadership in huge Chinese market with 25 new, updated models

(April 12, 2010) General Motors, the largest foreign automaker in China, plans to introduce 25 new or updated models in the nation by the end of 2011 as it seeks to maintain leadership in the world's biggest auto market.

The models will include the Chevrolet Volt plug-in electric car in 2011, GM said. The automaker plans to add more hybrids and electric vehicles within the next five years and increase the use of turbochargers, direct-injection systems and improved aerodynamics to boost fuel efficiency.

Ford announces plans to build small SUV in Brazil for global markets

The investment is the largest Ford has ever earmarked for Brazil, where the U.S. automaker has been operating for 90 years.

Report: Infiniti G series to get Mercedes 4-cylinder engine

(April 8, 2010) Infiniti’s volume line, the G series, will get a Mercedes-Benz engine as part the global alliance between Daimler AG and Renault-Nissan, according to AutoWeek magazine.

Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault and Nissan, said the G will use a Mercedes inline four-cylinder from Daimler to improve fuel economy and cut emissions. He didn’t say when the engine would reach Infiniti production lines or indicate the extent to which it will replace Japanese-made four-cylinder and V-6 engines used in the G sedan and coupe.

Chevrolet to sell up to 200 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car replica Camaros

Failing to find a buyer, General Motors closing down Hummer brand

(April 7, 2010) General Motors is shutting down its Hummer SUV brand for good, taking the last of its four discarded U.S. brands off the market, Automotive News reported.

GM had said it would consider offers to buy Hummer after a deal to sell the brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery failed to receive Chinese government approval in February. Now GM has decided to move forward with closing the brand, Hummer spokesman Nick Richards said.
