Ford and Hyundai shine in latest performance ratings from Experian Automotive

Chevrolet Cruze amasses more than 100,000 international sales in first year

Toyota closing down lines at San Antonio and Georgetown

(February 17, 2010) Toyota is switching from factory overtime to factory shutdowns because of the disruption in retail sales caused by its January safety recall, Automotive News reports.

The automaker said it would stop Tundra pickup production in San Antonio the weeks of March 15 and April 12. Toyota also will stop production of the Camry and Avalon sedans and the Venza crossover at its Georgetown, Ky., plant on Friday, Feb. 26. Toyota is considering canceling three more days of production there in March and early April.

Ford opens 28 new dealerships in India as new Figo comes to market

(February 16, 2010) NEW DELHI, India — Ford India, preparing for next month’s launch of the all-new Ford Figo, today opened 28 new authorized Ford dealer facilities in 24 cities, improving market availability and service facilities for its full line of vehicles.

The new retail stores bring Ford’s dealership total to 164 facilities located in 97 cities across India.  In the past two years, the number of cities with a Ford outlet has jumped more than 30 percent. 

Ford officials confirm Mercury to get new small car

(February 15, 2010) ORLANDO, Fla.. — Ford executives confirmed that Mercury will get a new car on the same platform as the Ford Focus.

Ford executives told dealers Sunday at the NADA convention that the small Mercury is coming in 2011, the same year the Focus arrives. Two dealers who attended the meeting say the car will be called the Mercury Tracer, according to the Automotive News.

Volkswagen announces ambitious goal to sell 800,000 vehicles a year in U.S.

(February 14, 2010) ORLANDO, Fla. — Volkswagen Group of America will aim to boost annual U.S. sales to 800,000 a year by increasing brand awareness, investing in U.S. production and growing its product line, said president and CEO Stefan Jacoby, who is the convention keynoter. Volkswagen sold 297,000 vehicles in the United States in 2009.
