Wiesmann’s electric roadster ‘Project Thunderball’ raises $749,000 for charity

(May 29, 2022) ANTIBES, France —  One of the first models of Wiesmann’s hotly anticipated all-electric roadster ‘Project Thunderball’ went under the hammer this past week at the prestigious amfAR Gala Cannes raising 700,000 Euros ($749,000) to support the vital work of amfAR in research into, and awareness of, the global fight against HIV and AIDS.

Held at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, the Gala marked the public debut of the world-first all-electric Wiesmann, which will be finely handcrafted at the company’s "Gecko" factory, a state-of-the-art facility in Dülmen, Germany. Guests at the star-studded event enjoyed performances from Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, and Charli XCX, alongside a fashion show curated by Carine Roitfeld.

Roheen Berry, owner and CEO of Wiesmann said: “amfAR does vital work in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and we are delighted to have supported its cause through our involvement in this very prestigious event. The Cote d’Azur could not be a better backdrop to introduce Project Thunderball in the metal for the first time, and through the generosity of the winning bidder on the night we are very pleased to be able to contribute much-needed funds for amfAR to put to good use.”

Project Thunderball is Wiesmann’s response to the electrified vehicle revolution, also marking a revolution at the heart of its brand, for the first time combining the remarkable characteristics of an electric powertrain with the trademark performance, driving pleasure and styling of a true Wiesmann.

The world-first all-electric convertible roadster will be crafted from advance carbon fibre, weighing in at little more than 3,7500 pounds, with a power to weight ratio of 2.5kg (5.5 pounds) per HP, bringing remarkable agility and handling more than worthy of the Wiesmann badge.

The target range of Project Thunderball is 500km (310 miles), thanks to its state-of-the-art 800V high-voltage architecture providing a maximum 92kWh battery capacity (83kWh available) — uniquely high for a roadster. Powered by twin electric rear-mid mounted motors delivering up to 680 horsepower to the rear wheels and 1100 Nm of torque (810 foot-pounds), bringing phenomenal straight-line performance and a targeted 0-62 mph sprint acceleration time of 2.9 seconds

Project Thunderball is available to order now, with pricing from 300,000 Euros ($321,000).
