Volkswagen, Tanner Foust team up for launch of Golf GTI video series

(June 2, 2014) HERNDON, Va. — Volkswagen has announced a video campaign with Top Gear TV host and rallycross driver Tanner Foust to support the launch of the all-new 2015 Golf GTI. Foust, who is also one of the world’s leading professional stunt drivers, brings the Golf GTI driving experience to life with the aid of a car fitted with dozens of GoPro cameras.

The versatility of the GoPro camera makes it uniquely suited to highlight the performance of the 2015 Golf GTI and its powerful EA888 TSI turbocharged and direct-injection engine.

The VW team, supported by Deutsch LA, covered an all-new 2015 Golf GTI in GoPro cameras that are capable of capturing incredible footage from unique angles. The result is “Turbocharge the Everyday,” an interactive long form video set to debut today. “People think that you need to take your car to the track to have fun, but the Golf GTI is a blast to drive even when carrying out everyday tasks,” said Foust.

In celebration of the Golf GTI launch, Volkswagen is giving away a GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition camera and mount to customers who purchase or lease the all-new 2015 Golf GTI by June 30, 2014. The camera will enable the lucky owner to capture their own, unique Golf GTI moments (on a closed course).

“We take a lot of pride in the Volkswagen Golf GTI’s performance. The GoPro camera is the perfect way to let other people experience the rush you feel behind the wheel of the all-new Golf GTI,” said Vinay Shahani, vice president of Marketing, Volkswagen of America. “It was a fantastic bonus that Tanner Foust, who is one of our drivers for the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team, was behind the wheel during the shoot. The combination of Tanner, the Golf GTI, and the GoPro cameras resulted in some thrilling video,” added Shahani.

In addition to the Foust video, Volkswagen has teamed with Motor Trend to produce a series of videos starring professional drivers and automotive influencers. The multi-segment campaign will also take viewers behind-the-scenes with a special look at the creation and execution of these unique Golf GTI videos.

With an impressive list of professional drivers and shooting locations that range from the Redwood Forest and Santa Monica Beach to downtown Los Angeles, the video series highlights the incredible versatility of the original “hot hatch.” The first video is set to debut on June 4, with the rest being released online throughout the month of June.
