Toyota to recall 138,000 Lexus vehicles in U.S.

(July 3, 2010) TOKYO — Toyota Motor Corp. said on Friday its Lexus division will recall about 138,000 vehicles in the United States to fix an engine glitch.

About 270,000 vehicles are being recalled worldwide, Toyota said.

Toyota said it would file the recall in Japan on Monday, covering 90,000 high-end sedans.

In the United States, the vehicles being recalled are powered by 4.6 and 5.0 liter V-8 and 3.5 liter V-6 engines in certain 2006, 2007 and 2008 GS, IS and LS models, Lexus said.

Lexus told The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration the repair will involve replacement of the engine's valve springs at no charge.
