TL leads solid increase in Acura car sales

(February 7, 2012) TORRANCE, Calif. — Acura announced last week that its January sales of 8,381 represented an increase of 5.3 percent compared to January 2011. But the big story is the mid-sized TL.

The TL was refreshed during the 2011 model year, toning down a design that has received considerable criticism, and might have turned off some prospective buyers. In the styling update, Acura revised the grille (the subject of most of the ridicule) and reworked the rear end.

In January, TL sales were up a solid 43.7 percent from January 2011, at 2,283.

"With inventory still building to optimal levels, 2012 is off to a good start," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "After the successful launch of the RDX Prototype and the ILX and NSX Concepts at the Detroit Auto Show, strong January sales and the buzz surrounding Acura's Super Bowl commercial, the Acura brand has real momentum going forward."

Total car sales reported 4,582 units, up 24.1 percent versus January 2011. The entry-level TSX at 2,266 units was up 16.7 percent. The MDX was Acura’s best selling model with 2,861 sales for the month, down 8.5 percent.  Total truck sales tallied 3,799 units, down 11 percent.
