Streetline launches parking app 'Parker' in Asheville, N.C.

(July 3, 2011) ASHEVILLE, N.C. (PRNewswire) — Wondering if there are any open spaces in a crowded parking lot? There's an app for that!

Streetline, Inc.'s free smartphone app Parker is now live in Asheville just in time for the holiday weekend. The new real-time smart parking app allows for hands-free guidance to parking spaces in the Grove Arcade area via the Parker app for iPhone and Android.

Parker app icons note availability when there are more than four spaces (plenty of parking), more than two spaces (some parking), or less than two spaces (limited parking). The app also allows users to pay for parking using their phone and delivers information about time limits, pricing, and payment options. Information on select city parking garage locations and fees will also be available on Parker.

"We are excited to introduce Streetline's 'Parker' app to the City of Asheville, North Carolina," said Zia Yusuf, CEO of Streetline. "The city is ahead of its time in applying technology solutions that make life easier and more convenient. We applaud them for implementing smart parking programs like Streetline's as they make their city more efficient, intelligent, and sustainable."

Asheville is deploying the app to reduce traffic congestion and make life easier for residents and visitors to the historic Grove Arcade area. Link: Asheville video.

t's estimated that 30 percent of urban traffic is caused by motorists looking for parking. A year-long study found that drivers in a 15 block district in Los Angeles drove in excess of 950,000 miles, produced 730 tons of carbon dioxide and used 47,000 gallons of gas searching for parking.
