Second-generation Kia Picanto city car reaches UK showrooms Sept. 1

(August 19, 2011) Revealed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, the three-door version of the new second-generation Kia Picanto city car enters the British market this fall with prices starting from £7,795 ($12,472). Kia has revealed the official specs and pricing for the new Picanto, a model which will go on sale on Sept. 1 in the UK.

The engine range of the new three-door Picanto includes two gasoline units, a 1.0-liter unit developing 68 horsepower and 70 pound feet  of torque while a more powerful 1.25-liter four-cylinder engine developing 84 horses and 89 pound-feet of torque.

The entry-level model is offered with two trim levels called “1″ and “1 Air” with such standard features as a CD player with MP3, air conditioning, adjustable driver seat and steering column, electronic stability control, electronic brake-force distribution and anti-lock brakes.

The 1.25-liter unit comes with the “Halo” and “Equinox” trim levels which bring in addition features such as 14-inch alloy wheels, heated steering wheel and front seats, alloy pedals and reverse parking sensors.

While becoming more stylish, the new 141-inch long Picanto will also remain an extremely practical car. On the outside, overall vehicle length has increased by 2.3 inches, and the wheelbase has grown by a half inch. These increases, and some clever interior packaging, have enhanced the cabin space for people and for luggage, with trunk capacity increased by 27 percent to 7 cubic feet.

The Picanto was first produced as a 2004 model.
