(April 29, 2013) Three recalls have been announced over past couple of days by Honda, Nissan and Subaru. Honda is recalling almost 46,000 Fit small cars in the United States and Canada to fix a problem with the electronic stability control system software. Nissan is recalling 123,308 Altima sedans in the United States to adjust the inflation of the spare tires, which could be over- or under-inflated. Subaru is recalling just over 10,000 of its 2014 Forester wagons because the floor mats can interfere with the clutch, brake or gas pedals.
 
The Honda recall affects 2012 and 2013 model year Fit Sport cars. The cars may tilt too far during sharp turns, possibly leading to loss of tire traction and increasing the risk of a crash, according to documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

About 2,000 cars are affected by the recall in Canada and another 43,782 in the United States, Honda said.

To address the issue, which was discovered by NHTSA, Honda will update the stability control software. The Japanese automaker said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

Owners will be notified by mail starting in May, Honda said.

The Niisan Altima recall are for model year 2013, according to documents filed the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Due to a production issue that has since been corrected, the spare tires in some of the recalled cars may have too much or not enough air in them, NHTSA said. In some cases, the over inflation may have been significant enough to hurt the tires' structural integrity, causing them to fail and increasing the risk of a crash, NHTSA said.

Nissan said there were no reports of accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The problem was discovered by a dealer and an investigation by Nissan found the problem was caused by a malfunctioning pressure regulator at its Canton, Miss., plant, NHTSA said. Nissan will check the spare tires and adjust the inflation as needed, NHTSA said. If after further investigation by Nissan, the tire pressure exceeded a certain threshold, the spare tire would be replaced. The recall is expected to begin May 3, NHTSA said.

The Subaru recall affects Foresters made from January 2013 through March. The company says the floor mats can curl when exposed to heat. The problem was discovered in cars arriving at a port in Vancouver, Wash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the mats could distract the driver or interfere with operation of the car. Subaru traced the problem to improperly manufactured backing on the mats.

Dealers will replace the mats free of charge.
