Potential bad brake line leads to Chrysler recall

(July 9, 2010) Chrysler has issued a safety recall involving more than 26,000 2010 model Dodge Nitro, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Liberty and Ram 1500 vehicles for a bad brake line connection from the master cylinder to the hydraulic control unit.

Some vehicles may have been built with a brake tube with an improperly formed flare that could leak fluid and lead to reduced braking performance.

Chrysler says it is not aware of any complaints, accidents, injuries or property damage related to this defect.

The condition was discovered internally through “improved quality control processes.” Authorized dealers will conduct a voluntary safety recall on all potentially affected vehicles to inspect and replace the affected components. The improvement will be completed at no cost to the customer as required by law.

The safety recall is expected to begin during August 2010.
