Miami Auto Show opens this weekend; Hyundai to have NA debut

(November 5, 2014) The Ford Mustang GT has been named the Official Show Car for the 2014 Miami Auto Show, which opens with press day this week, Nov. 7. Forty-three manufacturer displays of their latest production vehicles as well as concepts will be on display.

Highlighting press day on Nov. 7, a Hyundai vehicle will make its North America debut.

Ford will show their 2015  Mustang GT in recognition of its all new model and Mustang's 50th Anniversary.  More than nine million Mustangs have been sold since introduced as a 1964 1/2 model. The GT model is the "Big Boy" of the models and features a 5.0 liter V8 motor pumping out 435 horsepower.

The show will unveil its newest attraction "Car Meets Art," a new exhibit highlighting the urban art explosion in Miami's Wynwood District.  Nine vehicles will be displayed ranging from a BMW 4 Series to a Jeep Wrangler that showcase the works of several US based, world-famous street artists.  These artists have brought their vision on to the vehicles for some eye-popping results.

A "Ride & Drive" test program will be available with vehicles sponsored by GM, Kia, Volkswagen, Nissan and Toyota.

"Camp Jeep" returns with their on-site test drive demonstrating 4x4 capabilities over a variety of surfaces and log crossings.  This 20,000 square foot attraction is a must for all who crave that rugged driving experience.

SAMA's (Southern Automotive Media Association) fourth program of "Topless in Miami," recently tested and nominated the top convertibles.  This year's winner, the Audi RS5, is the Luxury Convertible of the Year among class winners.  Also earning top honors in the Super Luxury Class was the Bentley Continental GT.  The Ford Mustang GT won in the Full Size Segment with the GM Chevrolet Corvette taking the Performance Class and the Mazda MX5 Miata winning in the Small Convertible Class.  All will be on display.

The popular "Havana Classic Display" will once again present an assortment of antique cars that once graced that city's roads.  Included will be a 1931 Ford 'A' Roadster, 1949 Buick Super Convertible, 1951 Mercury Sedan and the 1958 VW Beetle.  The featured car will be a 1936 Ford Cabriolet with a rumble seat originally owned by Academy Award winner Katherine Hepburn.

And someone will be going home with a new 2015 Chevy Camaro LT, the "give-away" vehicle for this year's show.  It is powered by a 3.6 liter V6 motor rated at 323 horsepower with a MSRP of $24,556.
