(June 24, 2016) WALWORTH, Wis.— With 300 vehicles hammered sold on the auction block in just two days, Mecum’s inaugural Portland auction at the Portland Expo Center was a pronounced success. Held June 17 and and18, the auction attracted vehicles from 17 states across the country and attendees from even more with total sales reaching more than $9.3 million.

The city was electric and the buzz about Mecum’s arrival in Portland was inescapable in the days leading up to the auction. The local enthusiasm coupled with the event’s national reach resulted in a packed house both auction days.

The collector-car enthusiasts came for the high-quality consignments, and their families came for the quality time, entertainment and the Mecum Experience as a whole.

With interest and excitement noticeably piqued, nearly all of the auction’s main attractions hammered sold with some high bids far exceeding reserves. The top 10 sellers were dominated by muscle cars, and the auction’s highest seller was a 1965 Shelby GT350 Fastback (pictured below) that had been with one owner for 38 years. Hammering for $305,000, the car was a clear crowd favorite. Other top sellers included a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback with its original engine that brought $240,000 and a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda that brought $190,000.
