(September 14, 2019) — LAS VEGAS — Barrett-Jackson is embracing the rising demand for Japanese collector vehicles during the 12th annual Las Vegas Auction, Oct. 3-5 at the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort. Popular Japanese collector vehicles, including the Toyota Supra Mk IV, Acura NSX, Nissan GT-R and more will be a part of this year’s Las Vegas docket, and each will cross the block at No Reserve.

Toyota and Barrett-Jackson will celebrate their official partnership by offering the Toyota Thrill Rides, giving guests the opportunity to experience Toyota’s current vehicle line-up for the first time at a Barrett-Jackson Auction.

“We’ve seen a growing excitement among collectors for 1970s to current-generation Japanese vehicles,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. “The rising generation of enthusiasts who grew up with these cars is naturally a big part of this growing collector car segment.

1994 Toyota Supra

"The resurgence has also been inspired with the release of new models, like the 2020 Toyota Supra, which was unveiled and sold for charity during our Scottsdale Auction earlier this year. It will be exciting to watch this segment continue to grow as some amazing examples of Japanese collector cars cross our Las Vegas Auction block.”

Packing the powerful Toyota 2JZ-GTE twin-turbocharged I6 engine, four fourth-generation Toyota Supras will cross the block in Las Vegas at No Reserve.

Select examples include a 1994 Toyota Supra Sports-Roof is one of only 431 Targas produced in Renaissance Red during this model year. It’s powered by its original 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight 6-cylinder engine and mated to its original 6-speed V160 manual transmission. The car is a matching-numbers 1997 Toyota Supra 15th Anniversary Edition and remains completely stock, right down to the OEM polished wheels. It is powered by its original 3.0-liter twin-turbo straight 6-cylinder engine backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. Another example is a 1993 Toyota Supra ordered from the factory with spoiler delete and an LSD differential.


2008 Honda S2000

Late-model Japanese collector vehicles crossing the block include a museum-displayed 2008 Honda S2000 convertible. This original S2000 is powered by a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and has only 2,027 actual miles. A 2005 Acura NSX-T will also sell at No Reserve. An all-original Acura powered by a 3.2-liter 6-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, this NSX-T is one of just 43 in this black-on-black color combination out of 248 built in 2005.

“Japanese vehicles made their way to the States largely as entry-level passenger cars,” said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. “That started to change in the late-1980s when an arms race between top Japanese manufacturers began, improving performance and design. In the early 1990s, the Toyota Supra and Nissan 300ZX had become more powerful and sophisticated than many other domestic brands on the market. Barrett-Jackson is helping bring these beloved vehicles back to enthusiasts who fell in love with them nearly 40 years ago.”

1982 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 pickup

Custom imports are also featured on the Las Vegas docket, like a right-hand-drive widebody 1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R Custom Coupe. Loaded with JDM parts, this R32 is equipped with a 2.6-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Another is a 1999 Mazda Miata Custom Roadster nicknamed “Hell Kitty,” and is powered by a Hellcat 6.2-liter V8 engine backed by a 6-speed manual transmission. This monster Miata features an all new roadster suspension, Wilwood brakes and a surplus of other performance parts.

Japanese 4x4s are also a fast-growing segment of the Japanese collector car market. A one-owner, matching-numbers 1983 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 heading to Las Vegas underwent a nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration and is powered by its original 4230cc inline 6-cylinder 2F engine.

A rare Capri Blue 1982 Toyota FJ45 Pickup, another Land Cruiser up for auction is the product of a no-expense-spared, frame-off restoration. It is powered by a fully restored, 4230cc inline 6-cylinder 2F engine and is equipped with new Nostalgic AC air conditioning, a custom Autosound retro stereo system with a custom speaker box, and its original Toyota tools and owner’s manual.
