Intuitive technology added to 2023 Lexus LS 500, 500h

(November 16, 2022) PLANO, Texas — Lexus LS continues to set the tone for all other luxury automakers, with the addition of Lexus Interface with standard 12.3-inch touchscreen display with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto capability. In 2023, the flagship Lexus LS 500 provides drivers with an intuitive multimedia system complete with a Voice Assistant (Hey Lexus), Wi-Fi Connect, Service Connect and Safety Connect trials.

The 2023 LS 500 will have a starting MSRP of $78,685 including destination charge, and the 2023 Lexus LS 500h with Lexus Teammate will have an MSRP of $114,585.  Both are expected to arrive in dealerships in late 2022.

The LS’s fundamental dynamic character, as defined by the Lexus GA-L platform, makes it the brand’s most capable sedan flagship to date. Subtle tuning of its control surfaces, the steering and the braking controls help give it more control, poise and help elevate driver confidence.

The LS provides a suspension with balanced spring and damper rates for impeccable damping performance. To help control vehicle body roll in turns, the diameters of the front and rear anti-roll bars are optimized.

For added suppleness and enhanced handling stability, the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) employs revised linear solenoids and control valves designed to provide low damping force via their enlarged internal flow path. In addition, the operation of the LS’s available ride-height-adjustable air suspension function helps facilitate ingress and egress.

The 3.4-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine on the LS 500 offers the output one would expect in a flagship sedan: 416 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque. In the pursuit of refinement goals, the engine features a piston with a lip shape on the piston top to help realize low emissions and quiet operation when the engine is cold. The wastegate control on the twin-turbo engine provides stable opening and closing of the valve to enhance performance efficiency. The 10-speed automatic transmission is re-calibrated to aid in keeping the engine in a more responsive area of its power band.

The LS 500 delivers a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds. The driver can tailor powertrain response and feel by choosing from Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport S or Sport S+ modes. The available AWD system features a Torsen limited-slip center differential to further enhance grip, traction and cornering stability. The torque distribution can vary from 31% front / 69% rear on dry roads to as much as 48% front / 52% rear on slick surfaces.

Developed based on the Mobility Teammate Concept, Lexus Teammate is built on the belief that people and vehicles can work together in partnership to help achieve safe, convenient and efficient mobility. Lexus Teammate on the LS 500h AWD provides two functions: Advanced Drive and Advanced Park.

Advanced Drive

Advanced Drive is designed to be used on limited access highways in order to detect driving conditions to plan and execute acceleration, braking and steering commands to maintain the vehicle within the lane, follow other vehicles, change lanes, navigate certain interchanges and traffic jams and help to overtake slower vehicles.

It supports SAE Level 2 functionality that under certain conditions, can also offer hands-free capabilities while keeping your eyes on the road. This feature can benefit the driver by helping to reduce fatigue over long periods of driving and empowering the driver to pay better attention to the surroundings for safety.

Advanced Park

Advanced Park assists the operations necessary for hands-free parking by automatically controlling steering, acceleration, braking and gear changes when parallel parking or backing into a parking space. Using 360-degree sensing, which integrates the functions of complete-circumference cameras and ultrasonic sensors, the system also provides a bird’s-eye view display to allow the driver to check the vehicle’s position relative to any obstacles during Advanced Park operation.

Intuitive Connected Services

The 2023 LS embraces continuous improvement with the introduction of the new state-of-the-art Lexus Interface multimedia system, with a 12.3-inch touchscreen display. The Lexus Interface multimedia system and connected services present a re-envisioned user experience for LS owners. The system features the latest display featuring higher resolution and smartphone-like, anti-glare technology. Users can interact with the system through intuitive touch and voice activation controls.

Lexus Interface incorporates a Voice Assistant available through voice activation or accessible via a button on the steering wheel. Simple phrases like “Hey Lexus” awaken the system for voice-activated commands. Developed with a human-centered approach, the Voice Assistant allows for a natural and intuitive way for guests to interact with the new multimedia system.

Designed with dual microphones, enhanced noise-cancellation, seat detection and speaker location capabilities, the system enables a voice-first approach providing front seat occupants an expanded and interactive experience to access media, phone and vehicle settings, such as climate control.

Safety Connect and Service Connect, a suite of services that help drivers stay secure while on the road, are now available with up to a 10-year trial.

With a Drive Connect trial or subscription, drivers and passengers have access to Cloud Navigation, Destination Assist and the Intelligent Assistant features. The cloud navigation offered through Drive Connect allows for real-time traffic and routing information and Points of Interest (POI). To ensure up-to-date search capability, Google POI data is integrated. Destination Assist also gives access to 24/7 live agent assistance to locate the next destination.

Intelligent Assistant expands upon the standard Voice Assistant capabilities. Convenience features such as weather and location-based notifications are accessible, including address and POI search with navigation through Intelligent Assistant. With a Wi-Fi Connect trial or subscription, Integrated Streaming offers integrated audio streaming functionality.

Lexus Interface also allows for dual Bluetooth phone connectivity, with support for standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
