Hummer to keep headquarters in Michigan

(September 24, 2009) Although its new owners will be Chinese, Hummer will still retain its headquarters in Michigan.

If the sale of Hummer to the Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Company is finalized, the brand will invest up to $9.4 million to create a new global headquarters in southeastern Michigan. The facility will be responsible for all design, engineering, product planning, and marketing of Hummer vehicles and will create approximately 941 new jobs, including 300 with the company itself.

Hummer had previously eyed locations in both South Carolina and Tennessee, but a $20.6-million tax credit was offered to the automaker by the State of Michigan. The credit will be applied over a span of 10 years.

No details on an exact location for the new Hummer HQ have been revealed, but the company is reportedly eyeing locations in both Auburn Hills and Detroit.
