H-E-R-I-T-A-G-E, the new spelling of 'investment'

(July 15, 2016) If you haven’t ordered your 2017 Ford GT yet, you might want to consider the limited-edition ’66 Heritage Edition that pays homage to the 1966 race-winning Ford GT Mk. II driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon. But hurry. This particular model will be offered only during the 2017 model year.

Though the photos show a matte black finish, the ’66 Heritage Edition also can be ordered with a gloss black finish. No matter which is chosen, the car comes with silver stripes, the exposed carbon fiber trim package, one-piece 20-in. forged aluminum wheels in satin gold clearcoat with black lug nuts, and “Frozen White” roundels with the number two on the doors and hood.

Inside, the ’66 Heritage Edition mimics its forefather with pillowed Ebony leather and “plow-through” stitching on its carbon fiber sport seats. In addition, the steering wheel is leather wrapped, and the seat belts have a unique blue webbing.

Unlike the racer, the Ford GT logo is placed on the head rests and steering wheel; the instrument panel, A- and B-pillars, and headliner are covered in Ebony leather; and there are gold appliqués on the instrument panels, seat X-brace and shift paddles. Rounding out the interior features are a serialized identification plate, number two graphic on the door panel, and an exposed matte carbon fiber surface on the door sills, air register and center console.

Pricing hasn’t been set, but it’s unlikely that any of the people ordering the new Ford GT will care. Especially when the monetary performance of the last GT’s specialty models are considered.

It will be interesting to see how long it will take before the first ’66 Heritage Edition Ford GT hits the auction block.
