Guy Webster's Italian masterpiece collection up for auction Jan. 27

(January 17, 2017) LAS VEGAS — The final eight motorcycles owned by iconic photographer Guy Webster are set to cross the auction block on Jan. 27, at the world’s largest vintage and antique motorcycle auction, the 26th annual Mecum Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction, slated for Jan. 25-28 at South Point Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas.

Webster, one of the pioneering rock 'n' roll photographers who is notable for his work in the music, film and political worlds over the past 50 years, had amassed a collection of more than 400 motorcycles with an eye on design and vision, viewing motorcycles as a form of mechanical art. Webster has sold off nearly all of his collection, and these eight motorcycles represent Webster’s perception of mechanical art at its best.

The motorcycles heading to Las Vegas from Webster’s collection are very rare, original and a largely unobtainable vision of early 1950s Italian art of the mechanical persuasion.

From a 1964 Ducati Twin Cam F-3 Racer, pictured at right, one-of-three produced and raced by factory-racer and World Champion Walter Villa, to Webster’s very first bike, an all-original, one-owner 1957 MV Agusta Gran Sport Moto Giro, these motorcycles are truly the best of Webster’s collection.
