Government investigating steering loss in 2013 Honda Accords

(November 10, 2014) The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Saturday it is opening two new investigations into steering problems in nearly 400,000 cars and crossovers including 374,000 model year 2013 Honda Accords. The investigation also includes 17,000 2008 Infiniti EX35 crossovers.

NHTSA has reviewed 24 complaints alleging loss of power steering and/or sudden increase in steering effort in 2013 Honda Accord cars. Four complaints allege failures resulted in crashes, which all occurred at speeds less than 30 mph. Some complaints said the condition was corrected by turning the vehicle off and restarting the car, but some said the condition returned again after restart.

NHTSA also is reviewing Infiniti cars after two complaints alleging steering wheel shaft separations in 2008 Infiniti EX35 crossovers.
