GM recalling 117,651 vehicles over chassis control module defect

(October 3, 2014) DETROIT — General Motors will recall 117,651 vehicles in North America to fix a chassis control module defect that could encounter an electrical short that might cause engines to stall.

While the company said the problem can occur in only about 1 percent of the recalled units, it issued a stop-delivery notice to dealers covering 2013 and 2014 models of Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban; Cadillac CTS, Escalade and Escalade SUV; GMC Yukon; and only the 2014 models of the Chevrolet Traverse, Express van and Silverado HD; GMC Acadia, Savana van and Sierra HD.

Altogether the recall covers 97,540 cars and trucks in the U.S. and another 10,111 in Canada, Mexico and other markets.

GM said it would park about 4,500 unsold vehicles until the repairs can be made.

“If the vehicle experiences this condition and stalls while in motion, there could be an increased risk of a vehicle crash,” GM said in its notice to dealers. Dealers will replace the bad modules once parts become available, the notice says.

“We are working with the supplier to obtain the required parts as quickly as possible,” it says. “When a sufficient quantity is available, the recall bulletin will be released and dealers can begin repairing vehicles.”
