GM donates 216 new diesel trucks to ASEP schools

(November 27, 2020) DETROIT — General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales remains committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure technicians within the dealer network are highly trained in order to service the advanced technology found in GM vehicles. It starts with recruiting young talent into the GM Automotive Service Education Program and Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation, where they can start to build a highly successful and long-term career.

As part of GM’s commitment to these fruitful programs, an approximately $12 million donation of 216 2019 and 2020 model year 3.0-liter diesel GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks was made to 50 U.S. GM ASEP colleges and three select universities, beginning in the third quarter of 2020.

“This donation provides a greater opportunity for our up and coming technicians to learn on the innovative technology in our current model vehicles, providing hands-on repair experience and diagnostic skills,” said Eric Kenar, GM manager, Technician Environment and Service Technical College. “This will put those students at a competitive advantage when they graduate from GM ASEP and enter into the dealership or ACDelco Professional Service Center environment.”

GM ASEP is a joint effort between GM, GM Dealers, ACDelco Professional Service Center Program Members and select colleges across the United States, Canada, China and Ecuador. It incorporates advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading, electronics, and both analytical and technical skills using GM products to give students the best possible preparation for a career as a GM technician. Students alternate between the classroom and hands-on work experience at a sponsoring GM dealership or ACDelco Professional Service Center. Upon completion of the program, students will earn an associate degree in Automotive Technology.
