(June 30, 2018)  DETROIT, Mich. —On Sunday (July 1) The History Channel debuts a new documentary entitled Detroit: Comeback City that charts the mutual rise, fall, and rise again of Detroit and Michigan Central Station — in the words of real Detroiters. The documentary airs at 9 p.m. eastern time.

Ford announced last week plans to transform the 105-year old building into the centerpiece of a vibrant new campus in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood that will serve as an innovation hub for the company’s vision for the future of transportation.

The station will also be redeveloped into a regional destination with modern work spaces, retail, restaurants, and residential living. More than 20,000 people attended last weekend’s Michigan Central Station open house for one final look at the station in its current condition.

Opening in 1913, the station was the tallest rail station in the world. For many of those visiting Detroit, Michigan Central was a testament to a grand city on the rise. For over 75 years, the 18-story-tall station transported passengers across the country and was lavished with marble floors, bronze chandeliers, and 68-foot Corinthian columns. Replicating European aesthetics, the waiting rooms were even modeled after public baths of Ancient Rome.
