Chevrolet TrailBlazers probed for door fires

(February 14, 2012) Federal safety regulators are investigating fires in the driver's side doors of Chevy TrailBlazers, according to the Detroit News. It's the second such investigation announced in a week.

The inquiry involves more than 309,000 TrailBlazer SUVs from the 2006 and 2007 model years. The fires began in the power window switch or related electrical parts, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.

The agency began investigating the TrailBlazer on Thursday, just three days after it opened a probe into similar problems with the 2007 Toyota Camry sedan and RAV4 SUV. None of the vehicles have been recalled.

The agency has received 12 complaints of smoke or fires in TrailBlazers. No injuries have been reported, says General Motors. None of the vehicles that caught on fire were destroyed, although some door parts melted and seats were singed, the automaker said.
