Chevrolet finds September success with Silverado

(October 2, 2014) DETROIT — Truckloads of customers drove new Chevrolet Silverados home last month. As a result, September U.S. sales soared 54 percent compared with a year ago, making it the current-generation Silverado’s best sales month since its launch.

Chevrolet sold just over 50,000 Silverado trucks — the reigning North American Truck of the Year — in September, resulting in a share gain of 6.5 percentage points in the large pickup truck market.

“Our Chevrolet dealers took advantage of pent-up demand in the full-size truck segment and by offering customers more choices, we’re bringing more truck buyers to Chevrolet at the expense of some of our competitors,” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet. “We intend to continue this momentum with new models such as the Rally Edition — released in August — and the High County HD, which shipped to dealers last month.”

The Silverado’s strong performance helped General Motors increase its share of the large pickup truck market to nearly 39 percent – 5 percentage points higher than a year ago.

“We’ve already sold more than half of the 4,000 Rally Edition trucks we built for the 2014 model year, and we expect similar enthusiasm for the special-edition University of Texas Longhorns Silverado we revealed last month in the heart of truck country,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet director of Truck Marketing.

Other Silverado sales highlights in September:

    • Light-duty double cab Silverado sales were up 130 percent, for the best double cab September sales in 10 years.
