Audi launches giant LED scoreboard in Brooklyn to celebrate soccer

(June 19, 2014) HERNDON, Va. — In celebration of soccer month, Audi has created a giant LED scoreboard using the headlights of 28 Audi A8 flagship sedans. The colossal installation — which sits on the shores of Greenpoint, Brooklyn — will bring the excitement of world-class soccer to NYC with a revolving digital scoreboard that projects the day’s soccer results.

Visible from miles away, including from an airplane, the Audi LED Scoreboard is comprised of 45 shipping containers and stands at over 40 feet tall. The LED Scoreboard digital clusters are made up entirely by the LED headlights of the featured A8 vehicles, showcasing Audi engineering prowess.

All soccer match scores, beginning with the USA win, will be posted throughout the four-week installation. All international victories will be celebrated. The Audi LED Scoreboard will be live through Monday, July 14th. The scoreboard is the first installation in a season-long commitment by Audi to bring world-class soccer to the U.S.

“Audi is proud to bring the passion of international soccer to the shores of Manhattan with a fun, eye-catching LED installation. As the U.S. appetite for international soccer grows, Audi will continue to bring fans exciting activations that enhance their soccer experience,” said Loren Angelo, Director of Marketing, Audi of America.

The season will culminate this July with the Audi Football Summit. Featuring the globally-recognized team FC Bayern Munich, the international match will take place on July 31at 8 p.m. EST at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey against one of Mexico’s most historic and popular clubs, Club Deportivo Guadalajara. The match will be broadcast via television stations and websites nationwide. Tickets can be bought via tickets.newyorkredbulls.com or by calling 1-877-RB-SOCCER.

“We are proud to play host to one of the most historic and acclaimed soccer teams in the world,” said President Scott Keogh, Audi of America. “Audi is honored to work with a world-class football club like FC Bayern and is looking forward to an exciting match!”

FC Bayern Munich has won five titles in 2013, including the UEFA Champions League, and is current FIFA Club World Champion. AUDI AG is a partner and partial owner of FC Bayern in the 11th season. All players drive Audi cars from across the range. Earlier this year, FC Bayern opened its first overseas office in New York. For the Summit, players and members of the board will stay in the city for four days.
