(December 10, 2018) SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Barrett-Jackson is rounding up some of the best examples of classic and late-model Ford Mustangs to cross the auction block during its 48th Annual Scottsdale Auction, Jan. 12-20 at WestWorld of Scottsdale.

Included in the impressive herd of Pony cars stampeding into Scottsdale is the Mustang that started it all, the first ʼ65 pre-production hardtop to receive a VIN. Also included in the docket is a ’93 SVT Cobra R, which is an incredibly hard-to-find, low-mileage Fox Body model.

Adding some Hollywood horsepower to the auction docket is “Eleanor,” one of the original ’67 custom coupes used in the movie “Gone in 60 Seconds.”

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors to own an iconic piece of automotive history. All of the Mustangs crossing the block in Scottsdale carry a piece of VIN 002’s DNA and represent the best examples from every generation of Mustang.”


1965 VIN 002 Mustang

The ’65 VIN 002 was hand-assembled at the Ford Pilot Plant, this Mustang is credited with starting the Pony car revolution. The Mustang will include two binders containing ownership and condition affidavits from all previous owners, along with photos, statements and signatures, as well as its provenance documentation confirming the entire history of the car and complete restoration.

Other classic Ford Mustangs crossing the block in Scottsdale include:

• ’65 GT K-Code – Fully restored K-Code, accounts for less than 1 percent of the ’65-67 models

• ’65 D-Code convertible – powered by a 289 engine and finished in Wimbledon White

• ’65 K-Code convertible – Rust-free California convertible finished in Poppy Red with white top

• ’69 Boss 429 – #605 of 857 Boss 429s built in 1969 with only 4,558 original miles

• ’69 GT 428 CJ convertible - One of nine Q-code GT convertibles built with a manual transmission

• ’70 Boss 302 ) – One of 33 in Calypso Coral with white interior, recent rotisserie restoration

1993 Mustang SVT Cobra R

The ’93 SVT Cobra R was a factory race model and was limited to 107 units. Number 11 of a low-volume production, this Mustang Cobra has only 500 actual miles from being used at special events over the past 25 years and includes all documentation since new. Another rare Fox Body Mustang on the docket is an ‘84 20th Anniversary Mustang GT350. This low-production Mustang has only 121 actual miles and is completely original, including its Oxford White finish and Canyon Red interior, which is still in the factory plastic wrap.

•’03 Mach 1 - This Mach 1 has never been driven on the road and is 100-percent original

• ’05 Saleen S281 - #1,239 of 1,351 produced in 2005 with only 17,837 miles

• ’09 Iacocca 45th Anniversary Fastback - #33 of 45 built with only 602 miles

• ’11 Roush 5XR - #116 of 150 built with only 15,431 miles capable of 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds

• ’12 Boss 302 Laguna Seca – One of 767 built for the ’12 model year, with 9,382 actual miles.
