120-car collection to headline Mecum Houston auction April 13-15

(March 20, 2023) WALWORTH, Wis. — Nearly 120 highly respected and sought-after American classics from the Horton Classic Car Museum in Nocona, Texas, will be offered at no reserve as part of the estimated 1,000 total vehicles to be offered at auction at Mecum Houston 2023. The annual event will return to Houston’s NRG Center this April 13-15 with a characteristically diverse and desirable selection of classic and collector vehicles.


Among the headliners from The Horton Classic Car Museum Collection is a 1969 Plymouth Road Runner Convertible that is one of 2,128 Road Runner convertibles produced in 1969. Joining the Road Runner is a 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback, KK No. 1689, that sports a Royal Maroon paint job with a black interior, 429/375 HP V-8 engine and 4-speed manual transmission, along with a factory 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda in Burnt Orange with black interior and the signature 426/425 HP Hemi V-8 engine.

The collection also includes nearly 40 Chevrolet Corvettes and individual attractions, such as a 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible that was awarded an AACA National First Prize in 2004, a 1969 Ford Mustang Mach I Factory Test Car and a Rosso Corsa with Saddle interior 2008 Ferrari F430, the lone foreign-built vehicle in the collection.

Featured Chevrolet Corvettes from the collection include a Polo White over red 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster that is one of 300 Corvettes made in the first year of production and includes copies of certificate and the scoring summary of its NCRS Top Flight award in 1998. There is also a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Split Window Coupe that is one of only 199 Corvette Z06s produced in 1963, and the car boasts a matching-numbers RF-suffix fuel-injected 327/360 HP V-8 engine.

Other featured consignments heading to Mecum Houston 2023 include a 1970 Pontiac GTO Ram Air IV wearing Code 19 Starlight Black with a Dark Saddle interior and packing a matching-numbers 400/370 HP V-8 engine and TH400 automatic transmission; a 1934 Ford Roadster Street Rod with Custom Orange paint and tan leather interior; and a multiple award-winning 1970 Chevrolet C10 Cheyenne Pickup.

Consignment positions for Mecum Houston 2023 are still available, and those who wish to participate are encouraged to submit a request-for-position form now to take advantage of pre-auction advertising and promotion. Bidder registration is available online in advance and on-site at the auction starting at $100, and standard, in-person bidding includes admission for two persons to the five auction days. For those unable to attend in person, enhanced remote bidding options are available, including for both online and telephone bidding.

General admission tickets are available in advance online for $20 per person, per day, and for $30 at the door and online after April 12; children 12 and younger receive complimentary admission. Doors open daily at 8 a.m. with the vehicle auction beginning at 10 a.m. and Road Art items to begin 30 minutes prior.
