100,000th Fiat 500 sold in United Kingdom

(June 7, 2012) Further proof of the Fiat 500's success in the UK was revealed today with the news that the 100,000th example was sold here last month — just four and a half years since its launch.

Fiat says that the passing of this milestone demonstrates beyond doubt that the Fiat 500 is still high on customer shortlists when it comes to choosing a new supermini. It follows on from April’s official UK sales figures in which the 500 was placed inside the top 10 best sellers with 2,600 vehicles sold.

The figure breakdown reveals that:

    • 80 per cent of all 500 sales have been 1.2-liter gas engine versions;

    • Eight per cent of sales are of the new 0.9-liter two cylinder TwinAir version, which was not introduced until 2010;

    • 48 per cent of cars purchased are in the top-of-the-range Lounge trim;

    • The most popular color choices are Bossanova white, Pasodoble red, Volare light blue and the metallic Crossover black

The Fiat 500 was International Car of the Year in 2008, and has won a host of other awards, including Fleet World Honors Best City Car (2011); BusinessCar Awards City Car of the Year (2011); What Car? Green Awards Supermini (2010); GreenFleet Awards City Car of the Year (2009);Auto Express Best City Car (2008) ; and Auto 1 Awards Small and Compact Vehicle (2008).

“We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,” says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.”
