Gas prices march higher with no signs of slowing

(February 8, 2022) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Blustery winter weather and geopolitical tensions are helping to drive the price of oil higher, which is in the low-$90s per barrel, nearly $30 more than in August. The recent cold weather in the U.S increased the demand for heating oil. Meanwhile, the concern that Russia will react to potential western sanctions by withholding crude oil from the already tight global market puts heavy upward pressure on prices.

(February 4, 2022) Having first experienced the”Essential” edition of Infiniti’s new QX55 SUV in the latter part of last year, I recently had the opportunity for time in the top-of-the-line “Sensory” trim of the 2022 Infiniti QX55. There is a lot to like about both, though, of course, the Sensory offers a bit more in the way of standard equipment. Not a lot more, but more on that later.

Automatic emergency braking for pedestrians not effective at night

(February 3, 2022) ARLINGTON, Va. — Automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems that can detect pedestrians are preventing pedestrian crashes — but only in the daytime or on well-lit roads. In all light conditions, crash rates for pedestrian crashes of all severities were 27 percent lower for vehicles equipped with pedestrian AEB than for unequipped vehicles, a new study from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found. Injury crash rates were 30 percent lower.

Watch the ultimate U-turn

(February 1, 2022) This interesting and exciting video showing a driver accomplishing the "ultimate U-Turn" on a dangerous mountain road has garnered nearly 39 million views on YouTube since it was put up Dec. 25, 2021. This is a maneuver that probably shouldn't be attempted by even the most skilled driver. At least the vehicle is front wheel drive so the driver never was in danger of losing traction — unless he miscalulated and backed over the ledge.

(February 1, 2022) Many of us find using a cell phone convenient for communicating and learning. Now, connecting a smartphone to a vehicle extends the utility of that little pocket computer. Vehicles have become smartphones on wheels. A car’s infotainment system records and stores call logs, contact lists, GPS information, emails, photos, text messages, social media feeds, videos, voice commands, and web histories.

Global tensions push oil prices higher, and pump prices follow

(February 1, 2022) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Uncertainty over Russia’s intentions toward Ukraine is contributing to higher crude oil prices, which are closing in on $90 per barrel. Russia is a member of OPEC+, and any sanctions based on their actions toward Ukraine may cause it to withhold crude oil from the global market. Higher oil prices will lead to higher gas prices for drivers. The national average for a gallon of gas has risen to $3.36, three cents more than a week ago.
