New-vehicle prices rise more than $2,000 from last year



(June 22, 2021) IRVINE, Calif. — The estimated average transaction price for a light vehicle in the United States was $41,263 in May 2021, according to the analysts at Kelley Blue Book. New-vehicle prices increased $2,125 (up 5.4%) from May 2020, while increasing $493 (up 1.2%) from April 2021.

Gasoline stocks increase helping to minimize pump price fluctuation



(June 22, 2021) WASHINGTON, D.C. — Increasing gasoline stock levels have helped to keep gas prices mostly stable across the country. On the week, 40 state gas price averages held steady or saw fluctuation of only one to two cents. This helped the national average decrease by a penny since last Monday, down to $3.07 according to AAA.

Summertime blues — Return of the 100 deadliest days for teen drivers



(June 16, 2021) WASHINGTON — Nationwide, more than 7,000 people died in teen driving-related summertime crashes from 2010 to 2019. That’s more than seven people/day during these 100 Deadliest Days — the period from Memorial Day to Labor Day —  compared to the rest of the year (six people/day).  According to previous research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, new teen drivers ages 16-17 are three times as likely as adults to be involved in a deadly crash.

Average age of cars, light trucks in U.S. rises to 12.1 years in 2020

Crude oil hits highest price in nearly three years

NHTSA enhances transparency of whistleblower program



(June 14, 2021) WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today posted a new website to make it easier for any employee or contractor of a motor vehicle manufacturer, part supplier, or dealership to provide whistleblower information to the agency. The new information page will assist whistleblowers in determining what information they should provide and how they should go about doing so. NHTSA is taking this action to make this program easier to access in recognition of the important role whistleblowers can play in enhancing the safety of the nation’s roadways.
