National gas price average jumps four cents as demand increases

(January 17, 2017) Gas prices jumped four cents on the week landing today’s national average at $2.53. According to the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased 164,000 barrels on the week to register at 8.8 million. The demand measurement is the highest demand for the first EIA report of January since 2011. The demand increase is a contributing factor to this week’s higher pump prices.

Michelin top brand in AutoPacific's 2017 replacement tire study

(January 16, 2018) TUSTIN, Calif. — Tire brands Michelin and Pirelli returned to the top two spots in AutoPacific's 2017 Replacement Tire Owner Satisfaction Awards after being edged out by Goodyear and Bridgestone last year. The study, now in its 7th year, identifies the most satisfying replacement tire brands using owner ratings for 17 different tire attributes.

Released last month, the results placed Michelin 1st, followed by Pirelli. Bridgestone and Goodyear dropped to 3rd and 4th rank, respectively.

AutoNation expects to benefit from tax reform bill

(January 16, 2018) FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — AutoNation, Inc., America's largest automotive retailer, today announced that it expects a benefit of approximately $41 million in the fourth quarter of 2017, or approximately 45 cents per share, due to the recent tax reform bill and the one-time impact on its deferred tax liability.

Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator, Volvo XC60 honored at Detroit auto show

(January 15, 2018) DETROIT — The Honda Accord won the 2018 North American Car of the Year at the Detroit auto show,  the Lincoln Navigator won Truck of the Year honors and the Volvo XC60 was named top utility vehicle of the year. The awards were announced this morning.

This year’s winners were selected by a jury of 60 American and Canadian automotive journalists from a group of three finalists in each category. A vehicle must be redesigned or significantly changed to be eligible for the award.
