Majority of American drivers on parking lot naughty list

According to a new survey, more than three quarters (76 percent) of U.S. drivers most frequently park their vehicle by pulling forward into a parking spot, rather than backing in, a riskier practice that driving experts warn leaves pedestrians more vulnerable when a driver later reverses from the spot and into the traffic lane.

New vehicle registrations top 17 million for first time since 2006

(December 14, 2015) SCHAUMBURG, Ill. —  Experian Automotive today announced that new vehicle registration volumes for light-duty vehicles reached the highest point in the past nine years. During the rolling year from Nov. 1, 2014, through Oct. 31, 2015, there were more than 17 million new vehicles registered within the United States — a metric that hasn't been achieved since 2006.

The highest number of new registration volumes on record was 17.4 million in 2006, and the lowest point was during the Great Recession, when volumes hit 10.2 million in 2009.

Analysis shows stronger economy can be bad news for highway safety

(December 14, 2015) ARLINGTON, Va. — An analysis of federal crash statistics by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows how economic recessions and subsequent recoveries affect crash deaths. Historical crash data point to the economic recovery as one likely cause of the increase in deaths.

Recent headlines imply that the years of declining traffic fatalities may be over for now. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has estimated that crash deaths increased 8 percent during the first six months of 2015. That would put the U.S. on pace for the highest toll since 2008.

The findings come at a time when CPO sales are at their highest all-time levels, and are expected by Edmunds analysts to continue to grow in the coming year.
