White and black most popular VW Beetle paint colors in 2018

(March 21, 2018) A new graphic illustrates the most and least popular Beetle colors of 2018. Using search data available on Cars.com, the team at VW Parts Vortex was able to determine the most popular Beetle paint colors for 2018. While the most common tints are white and black, 10 percent of the available Beetles fall into the “other” category.

“Due to the Beetle’s unique profile, we think it’s perfect for vibrant colors,” says Rocco Demas, manager at VW Parts Vortex.

“The design teams at Volkswagen and those who buy Beetles always enjoy a few playful colors added into the lineup, but this year’s most popular colors, so far, are black and white.”

Here’s how the chart breaks down:

    • White Beetles make up a whopping 27% of the available 2018 Beetles. To be fair, this year’s car offers the Pure White option in most trim levels, including Dune and Coast. A second white, White Silver Metallic, is also available.

    • Black is the second most popular color. Although Volkswagen’s Deep Black Pearl is the only black for the Beetle this year, it is available on all trim levels.

    • Blue holds a strong third place with 14%, which includes the Deep Sea Teal available only on the Coast trim level. Green is listed only half as much, matching just 7% of Beetles. These include mostly Bottle Green, but a few miscategorized Deep Sea Teals ended up in these listings.

    • Tornado Red is slightly more popular than green. Red Beetles account for 8% of the current listings.

    • Habanero Orange Metallic accounts for 6% of the currently available Beetles and is a vibrant orange-red color that is reminiscent of the Clementine color of the 1970s. Buyers do pay an extra $250 for this paint color.

    • Volkswagen also charges an additional $250 for the Sandstorm Yellow offered only on the Dune trim and is the color of only 1% of the current 2018 Beetles.

    • Although the Platinum Gray Metallic is a neutral like black and white, it accounts for only 5% of the available Beetles.

    • The 11% "Other" category is where many of the 2018 Beetle convertibles are listed. This is because the exterior color of a convertible is hard to categorize due to different colors on the body and convertible top.

“Volkswagen did away with the Dark Bronze color for 2018, and we haven’t seen a new limited edition Pink Beetle,” Demas says. “But it’s early in the year — we might see a fun color added before December.”
