Large cabin, stargazing sunroof make VW Atlas great for overnight trips

(August 18, 2018) The new VW Atlas is perfect for camping. The cargo area is 7 feet-by-4 feet when both rear rows of seats are folded down. That's plenty of room for a sleeping pad and a couple of sleeping bags, and is in fact larger than many tents. As a new infographic from VWPartsVortex.com  shows, the VW Atlas is the perfect vehicle for car camping.

“Why camp in a tent when you can camp in a VW Atlas with a panoramic sunroof?" says Rocco Demas, director of VWPartsVortex.com.

"With both rows of rear seats folded down, there's plenty of room for two people to sleep under the stars. In fact, the flat floor is bigger than a lot of tents!"

Introduced at the 2016 LA Auto Show, the VW Atlas has been available for purchase since May 2017. Since its debut, the Atlas has acquired a reputation as a great camping vehicle with Volkswagen enthusiasts.

"A lot of our customers have told us that the Atlas is great for camping because of the huge flat floor," says Demas. "We thought it would be fun to make a list of items to bring with you when you take your Atlas camping."

Highlights from Atlas camping list include:

    • Bring a dog. Whether you’re on your own or enjoying the weekend with a partner, a canine companion adds a little more company and security for your outdoor adventure.

    • Get a 4-inch double bed sized mattress that easily inflates and deflates allows for your personal comfort level. With all that lift, you should wake up as a happy camper.

    • If you opt to purchase the panoramic sunroof, you'll get the 'open air' experience without worry about bears.

    • Don’t spend your weekend getaway watching a pot. Water boils quickly and hot dogs sizzle right up on a 9.4 inches x 3.9 inches compact cookset that slides right under the seat.

    • After the hike, stay entertained with the deck of cards, dice, small bottles of vodka, or whatever else you’ve stashed in one of the 17 cupholders or just unfold your travel guitar and strum a few hits for a singalong.
