Comparison chart shows how 1985 CRX Si set a very high bar

(December 9, 2015) — While the 1985 CRX Si and 2015 Civic Si Coupe are profoundly different vehicles, a new comparison chart from HondaPartsOnline.net proves that the '85 CRX Si was a tremendous vehicle, even by today's standards. Comparing performance specs as well as fuel economy and up-front costs (inflation adjusted), the 1985 CRX Si stands out even today.

"The 2015 Civic Si Coupe is definitely a better car than a 1985 CRX. It's faster, safer, quieter, more comfortable, has more features, etc. etc.," explains Gib Goodrich, manager of HondaPartsOnline.net. "However, when you look at the specs, that '85 CRX Si was something special," says Goodrich.

The comparison chart shows that, while the 2015 Civic Si is more powerful, the 1985 CRX Si bests the 2015 model in terms of:

    • Curb weight, with the '85 weighing more than 1,000 pounds less than the 2015

    • Fuel economy, with the '85 getting slightly better gas mileage, even when the EPA's recently revised fuel economy ratings are used

    • Up-front cost, with the '85 being less than $18,000 when adjusted for inflation

"The amazing thing about the '85 CRX Si is that it only gives up 1.2 seconds in the quarter mile compared to the 2015 Civic Si Coupe," says Goodrich. "That's not very much when you consider the '85 CRX Si had less than half the horsepower of the 2015 Civic Si coupe," explains Goodrich.
