Chevrolet and OnStar offer real-time updates on Santa's location

(December 19, 2019) DETROIT — Santa Claus is coming to town and beginning Dec. 24, children whose families have Chevrolet vehicles equipped with an active OnStar plan can find out the location of his sleigh with a simple push of the blue OnStar button.

Chevy and OnStar, in collaboration with the North America Aerospace Defense Command, will provide real-time updates during St. Nick’s annual flight using NORAD’s official Santa-location data. NORAD uses the North Warning System radar chain and geosynchronous satellites with infrared sensors to follow Santa on his journey around the globe.

“Each year, we help keep spirits bright by fulfilling thousands of requests on Santa’s whereabouts,” said Stacey Unold, director of Contact Center Operations supporting Chevrolet. “This in-car technology provides Chevy owners and their families with a fun and festive way to connect during the most wonderful time of the year.”

In the spirit of the season, Chevy and OnStar will also donate $1 to the American Red Cross for every blue button push in the United States.

Program details:

Santa Update calls can be made anytime between 6 a.m. EST on Dec. 24 and 5 a.m. EST on Dec. 25.
Chevy owners with an active OnStar plan can push their blue OnStar button to request a Santa Update and learn Santa's current location.
