(July 11, 2022) The Genesis G80 Sport is an adrenaline pump of automotive goodness albeit reflecting determined materialism at over $70,000, yet do I dear say it’s an incredible bang for the buck that easily competes with the likes of luxury German heritage brands — Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis’ foray in a world of legacy automotive luxury brands is proof South Korea has come a long way since its depressing, dismal days of the Daewoo Nubira. One glimpse of the imperious looking G80 with its massive matrix grille, drooping rear roofline, sharply cut-off tail and details of the two-line game detail with front fender turn indicators, head an taillamps, arguably generates similar if not more enhanced stage presence than say the Audi A7 Sport back.

Along with its striking exterior design comes a posh and cosseting interior that’s thoughtfully designed, impressively crafted with the finest materials and build quality delivering a perfect blend of luxurious surroundings befitting its quilted Nappa leather seating surfaces that heat, cool and orthopedically massage. So much so they’ve earned the German back health association’s seal of approval.

While it’s clear Genesis has gone all-out on luxury, comfort and refinement, they’ve also brought their best game to the G80’s safety, technology and mechanicals.

Power is delivered via 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged 375-hp V6 engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. It rides on gorgeous 20-inch wheels and comes with all-wheel-drive along with rear-wheel steering to aid handling and agility. The ride and drive are simply impressive rolling refinement with ample acceleration and passing competence. There’s electronically controlled suspension that reads the road ahead to adjust for conditions.

A large 14.5-inch touchscreen adorns the top of the dashboard serving as the infotainments system control central. It can also be controlled via buttons on the steering wheel and voice commands. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and head-up display informs the driver of vehicle speed and other functions.

Overall, the new Genesis G80 Sport is an impressive mid-sized luxury sedan that has what it takes putting it near the head of a competitive class of luxury sedans.
