Honda Civic Type R — It's baaaaack ......... Honda's track-ready hot hatch

By Jim Prueter
MotorwayAmerica.com

(October 1, 2023) Honda's highly desirable high performance oriented Civic Type R (for Race) makes a return for 2023 after a one-year hiatus. Dating back to 2017, the Type R has had one of the most unique purpose built design and styling packages on the market for a relatively affordable price. That is if you are able to find a Honda dealer that hasn't added a sizable "market adjustment" upping the price of the window sticker by as much as an additional $20,000 or more.

Genesis Electrified GV70 — Electrifying the luxury compact crossover

By Casey Williams

(October 1, 2023) I’m as much into modern minimalism as anybody, but sometimes I’d like a little less being less and a little more being more.  Take, for instance, a popular electric luxury compact crossover bearing a name that starts with the last name of a 19th Century innovator and ends with a letter we last explored on Sesame Street.  I appreciate Tesla’s style, but might prefer a dose of classic elegance combined with all the latest technology.  The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 may be that car.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-in Hybrid — Saving some gas

By Dan Scanlan

(September 24, 2023) The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Plug-in Hybrid was silent as it bounded along the rutted dirt trail, the only sound from this electric drivetrain a subtle humming warble and tires scratching the soil. Nature could be heard as we drove with windows down, the EV was the best way to go off road — until a screeching sound arose behind: “BIG SCARY BUG IN THE CAR!!,” yelled my grandson from a booster seat in the leather back seat.

Acura Integra Type S — Capability enhanced by 6-speed manual shifter

(September 17, 2023) According to Acura — and they’d know better than I know — the company’s Integra Type S is a "new interpretation of sophisticated street performance engineered for a new generation of enthusiast drivers." And while I find the new(ish) Integra to be attractive across all trim levels, from its $30K base to the $50K Type S, I’m hard-pressed to find the "new interpretation" in a front-wheel drive, 4-passenger hatch with — to its credit — 320 horsepower and a 6-speed manual transmission.

Dodge Hornet — Historic name for new compact crossover

(September 10, 2023) It dominated NASCAR, boogied through the ‘70s, starred in countless movies, and is now enjoying a trip from Italy dressed as a boisterous American tourist.  No, this isn’t an A-list actor from classic Hollywood, though “Doc Hudson” Hornet in Pixar’s “Cars” was voiced by Paul Newman.  Hornet reappeared on fenders in the ‘70s after Hudson merged with Nash to form AMC and on a 2006 concept car.  Now, it’s on the tailgate of the stingin’ little 2023 Dodge Hornet crossover.

Ford Bronco Wildtrak — A fierce off-road superstar

Can the Bronco stand up to the Jeep
Wrangler Rubicon? — Here's our pick

(September 6, 2023) It seems since Ford reintroduced the Bronco — the highly capable SUV that combines on-road practicality with go anywhere terrain capability, open-top fun, and a "must have" retro look — it has become the most talked about darling of new vehicles. But now in its fourth year, there's still a waiting list should you decide to spec one out the way you want it and order it from the factory. You will be asked to comply with an acknowledgement that because of high demand and global supply chain constraints, not all models and trims or features are available to order.

Chevrolet Equinox RS — Sporty and practical

(September 3, 2023) My family tends to buy the same car over and over again – especially if it’s a good one.  My 92-year-old grandmother drives a full-size GM sedan, just as she has since the 1950s.  My other grandmother went through a sequence of Mercedes during more than three decades.  After driving two Chevy Equinox crossovers, want to guess what my parents bought?  Yep, another Equinox.  Given my time with the updated 2024 Equinox RS, I find little argument with their choice.

Buick Encore GX — A notable refreshening

(August 27, 2023) It has been Buick's best-selling nameplate for several years so it stands to reason that the brand's designers were given the task of making a mid-cycle refresh look, well, really refreshing. The front of the small Encore GX crossover SUV has been restyled to the point that a casual overseer could easily think the car has been given a ground-up redesign. It's a good move to keep would-be buyers — especially owners of an older Encore GX — to consider a new Encore when when vehicle shopping.

Infiniti QX60 — Stylish and comfortable

Editor, MotorwayAmerica.com

(August 20, 2023) We praise Infiniti for ditching the continuously variable transmission (CVT) for the current-generation QX60, which started life in 2022, with a proper 9-speed automatic. We're not fans of the CVT in any car — even as its popularity with automobile manufacturers grows — but we are especially opposed to its use in luxury vehicles.
