Jeep Grand Cherokee takes families the long way

(November 19, 2023) It’s getting that time of year when we gather our loved ones and hit the road to see more of our loved ones.  My family and I had that experience last weekend when we traveled four hours round-trip to visit my adopted in-laws.  It’s an easy drive with hours on the Interstate book-ended by narrow city streets.  A twisty-two lane to lunch and tight parking further tested the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude L’s skills as we took our ride the long way.

(November 12, 2023) The vast majority of pickup truck buyers today are what's called "never-never" truck owners — never tow, never haul, but seek the tireless experience and unique takeaways from driving one on a daily basis. Likewise, not everybody needs an oversized half-ton pickup thus there are the masses who opt to buy an easier-to-drive and park midsize with nearly all the convenience of a larger truck.

(November 12, 2023) Lexus took its own sweet time to introduce a proper electric vehicle.  While BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Genesis, and even Cadillac were introducing EVs, Lexus continued to focus on the range and efficiency of hybrids.  That may yet turn out to be smart as EVs struggle to find a foothold, but Lexus has finally seen fit to give us an EV.  The 2023 RZ 450e crossover is high on Lexus style, but a little short on range.

Fast forward five years and these early pioneers are now surrounded with market competitors including the BMW iX, Cadillac Lyric, Mercedes EQE SUV and others.

(November 5, 2023) In the three plus years since last driving Alfa Romeo’s Stelvio a lot has changed in the Alfa Romeo showroom; admittedly, that’s important only if you can find an Alfa Romeo showroom — don’t look for one in smaller locales with other high-end imports. Of note is a recent J.D. Power survey, signaling a significant uptake in customer satisfaction for Alfa Romeo.

(October 29, 2023) I’m the kind of guy who likes a luxury car, but doesn’t feel the need to scream with a glitzy badge.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy vehicles like the Cadillac XT6 three-row crossover, but sometimes it’s nice to arrive elegantly without throwing down.  That’s where the 2024 Buick Enclave Avenir comes in.  Avenir is to Buick what Denali is to GMC:  Legit American luxury with none of the drama.

(October 24, 2023) Not unlike European high performance marques including the AMG moniker from Mercedes and BMW's M division, Cadillac threw its horsepower into the competition with its own performance-focused skunkworks within the brand by creating the V-Series some two decades ago.

(October 22, 2023) Start with a complete redesign, add more power — a lot more power — and even better fuel economy than the outgoing model, sportier driving characteristics, 15 additional miles pure all-electric driving range from its plug-in hybrid set up, an overall much more premium feel and voila — you have an all-new Toyota Prius Prime.

(October 15, 2023) Scroll through web pages from major automakers and you’ll quickly realize compact sedans are in short supply.  Haven’t looked for a while?  Good luck!  Ford, GM, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi have all waved adios to a segment they once dominated.  While the Toyota Corolla still sells in respectable numbers, its maker recognizes buyers are shifting to taller rides.  So, to capitalize on the storied brand, and throw in some Prius DNA to a package buyers want, we get the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid.
