Lotus Elan celebrates 50 years

(June 28, 2012) Recalling Sixties spy-fi show The Avengers, the first thing men of a certain age remember is Mrs Peel’s black leather cat suit. But the character’s object of desire was her cute-as-a-button Lotus Elan.

The Elan was launched in October 1962 at the British Motorshow, just as the Sixties started swinging. Jaguar had launched the E-Type the previous year, and AC had the Cobra and Ferrari the GTO. Big, expensive, powerful muscles cars. The Elan was very different, and typically Lotus — ultra modern, lightweight, rapid and huge fun.

Largest Model A museum in U.S. to be completed by Labor Day

(June 8, 2012) Ground breaking for the all-new Model A Ford Museum, a 12,000-square-foot re-creation of a vintage Ford dealership complete with gas pumps and service bay, took place on April 17. When it opens, with a completion date near Labor Day, it will become the largest public museum dedicated to the Model A Ford in existence.

World's most expensive car — 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO

(June 4, 2012) Bloomberg News reported last week that a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold sometime in the latter half of May for a verified $35 million billionaire Craig McCaw of Seattle, Wash., who with his younger brother, Bruce, has had as many as 400 cars, and is thought to have spent well over $100 million on new acquisitions over the last 20 years.

Shelby Mustangs headed for the auction block in Tulsa

(May 25, 2012) TULSA, Okla. — Leake Auction Company will auction an impressive collection of Shelby Mustang's during their upcoming 40th annual collector car auction in Tulsa, June 8-10 in the QuikTrip Center. This collection consists of a variety of Mustangs, spanning the late Carroll Shelby's career.

Shelby is best known for his dedication to create high-powered muscle cars, most notably the Shelby Cobra and the Mustang Shelby GT500.

1,900 classic and modern Fords at annual California celebration

(April 25, 2012) BUENA PARK, Calif. — The 27th annual Fabulous Fords Forever! celebration was held at Knott's Berry Farm this past Sunday with exhibits of 1,900 classic and modern vehicles. An estimated 15,000 Ford owners and fans gathered to check out their favorite cars, meet with fellow enthusiasts and enjoy the Ford Motor Company "Drive One" experience.

Peterson museum unveils 1941 dealership exhibit

(April 2, 2012) Through the efforts of the Buick Heritage Alliance, Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles recently unveiled a pre-war-style Buick dealership exhibit, complete with period signage.

Its specific setting is 1941, a year in which many customers took the opportunity to purchase a new car just in case the war really did reach our shores.

'British Invasion' display set for opening of LeMay Museum in June

(March 29, 2012) TACOMA, Wash. — The LeMay Museum, America’s Car Museum, has announced a new exhibit that will be available upon its official public opening on Saturday, June 2. Their “British Invasion” display will commemorate the 1960s cultural revolution and will feature some of England’s more notable vehicles, including Mini, MG, Austin-Healey, Jaguar and Aston Martin, as well as the Museum’s 2.5-liter Coventry Climax-powered 1965 Lotus  Type 35 Tasman Cup Series racer, one of 22 built.

Short-lived Renault Avantime marks 10th anniversary

(March 25, 2012) There were only 8,557 copies built in 2002 and 2003, but the Renault Avantime grand tourer Coupé has a loyal following and its owners' group will celebrate the cars 10th anniversary in the UK. To mark the occasion a special meeting is being held for owners and enthusiasts next month.
