(May 16, 2013) AUBURN, Indiana — Auctions America continued its 2013 season this past weekend with its annual Auburn Spring collector car weekend at the historic Auburn Auction Park in Auburn. The highly successful auction, which included automobiles, motorcycles, and memorabilia, generated more than $5.7 million in total sales with over 77 percent of all lots sold.

Marking 20 years since the Volvo 240 series ended production

(April 28, 2013) On May 5, 2013, it will be 20 years since Volvo's single best-selling model, the 240 series, went out of production. Almost 2.9 million cars were made during the 19 years the 240 was produced; the car that first was criticized for its boring and boxy appearance, but during its lifetime managed to set the international standard for both safety and environment, win the European Touring Car Championship and achieve the status of yuppie cult car before it was discontinued in May 1993.

Al Unser Jr. named grand marshal at historic auto races

(April 19, 2013) MONTROSE, Calif.  — The Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) is pleased to announced that two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. will be the Grand Marshal at the 37th running of the Portland Historic Automobile Races June 27-30.

The 1990 and 1994 CART champion will return to the site of his first Indy Car win in 1984 at Portland International Raceway. In addition to the inaugural 1984 CART race, Unser won
at Portland again in '94 and ‘95, and was on the podium four additional times.

Joy Rainey to make 2,826-mile trek across U.S. in 1904 Oldsmobile

(April 11, 2013) LONDON — Joy Rainey, a regular participant in the Royal Automobile Club's London to Brighton Veteran Car Run each November, will begin an epic 2,826-mile journey across the U.S. on Saturday, April 13. At 8 a.m. Joy will be flagged away by the Mayor of Oceanside, California, to drive from Los Angeles to Daytona Beach, Fla., in her 1904 Curved Dash Oldsmobile to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

'Eleanor' from Nicholas Cage remake of 'Gone in 60 Seconds' on block

(April 5, 2013) WALWORTH, Wis. — A true movie star will make its way down Mecum’s signature red carpet this May in Indianapolis. Known by most simply as “Eleanor,” the modified 1967 Ford Mustang from Touchstone Pictures’ Nicholas Cage remake of “Gone in 60 Seconds” will cross the block as Lot S135 at Dana Mecum’s 26th Original Spring Classic auction this May 14-19.

National Insurance Crime Bureau report on Ford Thunderbird
