Mecum's Kansas City auction brings in more than $7.3 million

(March 29, 2017) WALWORTH, Wis. — Sales totals at Mecum Auctions’ spring 2017 Kansas City auction surpassed $7.3 million when the world’s largest collector-car auction company returned to the Show-Me State this past weekend. During the two-day auction, 309 vehicles were hammered sold in addition to 74 pieces of Road Art.

Three iconic cars representing American car culture to be on display in D.C.

(March 17, 2017) WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) has announced that three iconic cars representing unique American car culture will be displayed “center stage” on the National Mall in Washington D.C. from April 12 to May 4. On display April 12-19 — Gypsy Rose 1964 Chevrolet Impala “lowrider;” April 20–26 — McGee Roadster 1932 Ford V8 “hot rod;” and April 27-May 4   Hirohata Merc 1951 Mercury Coupe “radical custom.”

The event doubles as one of the region's leading car shows, and with good reason — with 475 collector vehicles expected, it provides a wonderful showcase of automotive history and design.

One of this year's more unique offerings is a 2000 Cadillac Deville DHS, originally owned by late Senator and pioneering astronaut, John Glenn. Glenn always owned Cadillacs and the car on offer represents his final purchase.

Chevrolet pictches short-lived Turboglide transmission in 1957 ad

(March 9, 2017) Chevrolet pitched its new 3-speed Turboglide transmission in the V8-equipped 1957 Chevrolet in this 90-second TV ad. It was a $50 option over the standard Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission and was available from 1957-1961.

It consisted of a concurrently geared (as opposed to sequentially geared) planetary gearbox. It was designed to help showcase the engineering features of the '57 Chevy and was often ordered with the Rochester RamJet fuel injected system on the 283 V8.

Infiniti to show iconic Prince R380 race car at Amelia Island Concours

(March 9, 2017) HONG KONG — Infiniti Motor Company will show the iconic Prince R380 race car on Sunday, March 12 at this year's Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance in the Japanese Prototype class. It will be the first public appearance of this historically significant vehicle in the Americas.

After breaking several land speed records in 1965, four R380s beat a trio of Porsche 906s to win the 1966 Japanese Grand Prix. The R380 that will be shown at "The Amelia" is the actual Japanese Grand Prix winning car, and is believed to be the only surviving R380 in existence.
